Paracord is a lightweight multi-filament and versatile nylon rope with a myriad of uses and benefits. They were originally used during World War II by US soldiers as suspension lines for parachutes. In the subsequent years, both civilians and military have discovered hundreds or even thousands of paracord uses (Jorgustin 5).
Paracord are not only strong and used for numerous purposes but they are also fun and colourful to work with. Paracords are available in a variety of colors and have a typical length of 50 to 100 feet and above (Mikkelsen 7). They can also be found in large quantities by the reel. Hikers and enthusiasts of outdoor sports are known to purchase or make "survival bracelets" from interwoven paracord to make a compact bracelets capable of being unraveled into several feet in the field.
Paracords can be used for numerous tasks but a couple of the obvious ones are; shelter making, to make a bowl drill for making a fire if for example you have run out of matches, smaller strands can be used to snare animals or to go fishing or strapping things together. Paracords can be used to make handles for spears or weapons and securing things such as tents. They can also be used to remove fixed objects and heavy debris, to control bleeding as a strap, for making ropes, hammock, sack, neckerchief slide, Clothes Line etc. They are used for making Survival Bracelets and the list goes on (Evans 15).
