It has been an unprecedented period of time here in the United States, as our GDP has been positive and strong over the last few years. Now that we understand how GDP is defined and measured, it is time to consider where do we go from here?
There are those who claim growth will result in the acceleration of climate change, and yet others claim this growth improves the standards of living and will spread around the world improving life for many.
Assignment: Discussion Paper, minimum 3 pages to answer the following;
Are we being realistic to think this growth is sustainable? Do you feel it is right to want to continue this growth or is a slowing down (controlled) of the GDP more appropriate? Do we have a social responsibility to slow our economy down?

Over recent years, the United States (U.S.) economy has improved steadily and more importantly, positively. This news comes even as the world’s largest economy is coming under severe threat from a country such as China. It is worth noting that the U.S. and China have had robust disagreements over a prolonged period and presently, the underlying challenges continue to persist. The situation is almost escalating to a full-blown crisis and eventually, a trade war that is likely to affect the global economy. The role of the U.S. in world economics is predominant. A great example is the 2008 financial crisis that began with the housing industry in the U.S. It spread to the extent that countries such as Greece go into precarious situations where they had to sell national assets (Kouretas & Vlamis, 2010). Therefore, the influence of the U.S. in the global economy is undaunted.
On the other hand, various quarters have raised worthwhile opinions concerning the tremendous economic growth. Among the concerns brought forth into the discussion is the acceleration of climate change. It is in order that the economy grows as a result of enhanced production. In essence, there is an increase in the flow of goods and services, which eventually is bound to affect the environment. In this regard, owners of this idea think that it is necessary to tone down. Although these concerns are legitimate, there is a need to offer an in-depth analysis of the situation. Proponents of continued and robust economic growth claim that this process will result in improved living standards. They lay their concerns mostly on the starving and poor countries in which case, they would enjoy the trickle-down benefits. It is necessary to consider these options and determine the one that has substantial benefits.
Questions linger on whether this growth is sustainable. Sustainable economic growth refers to a consistent growth rate that does not undermine future generations through the creation of other major economic problems (United Nations, n.d.). In most circumstances, these problems are related to the environment. A sustainable economic environment harbors the best conditions for quality job conditions for the entire working-age population. This growth accommodates greater access to financial services. Administrative functions make significant commitments to agriculture, banking, and trade infrastructures. These procedures result in increased productivity and alleviation of unemployment, particularly in developing countries.
