Youth and Highschool Sport – The Road Back
Recreation is an essential aspect of human life because it allows relaxing the body and mind after a tiresome day or faces some stress (Lowrey 63). The privatization of sporting avenues is unfair as it locks out the people from low-income families who cannot afford such a necessity. At the same time, youth from wealthy families will dominate these places leading to discrimination through economic classes. To end this discrimination and give everybody an equal sporting opportunity, local governments should provide free or low-cost options for sporting and leisure activities.
Leisure and recreation have several advantages that need to be tapped to attain a healthy society. First, it promotes healthy living by preventing certain diseases. Exercise is useful in preventing chronic diseases, enhancing body fitness, and promoting mental hygiene. The government's role is to ensure everybody lives healthy hence the need for local governments to take over sporting and leisure facilities.
Sporting activities are crucial in creating awareness, reducing stigma, and ensuring social inclusion (Roberts & David, 346). People living with disabilities are the most affected group. Most times, youths living with disabilities and hailing from poor backgrounds face the most stigma. It worsens when the private sector's sporting and leisure facilities are always after money since the disabled are alienated. This further increases the stigma. When the local government manages sporting and leisure facilities, everybody gets an equal chance. The youths also meet and share ideas, further creating a strong bond.
