Leadership: Visionary Leadership Compared to Charismatic Leadership
Research "Visionary Leadership Compared to Charismatic Leadership," and write a paper on the topic.
Visionary leadership involves leaders with a compelling vision for their business, their project or their organization. Visionary leaders can see beyond the ambiguity and the challenges of today to an empowering picture of tomorrow. Visionary leaders have a way of inspiring their members to rally around a shared vision. Charisma is from a Greek word meaning "divinely inspired gift". Followers are more likely to attribute charisma to leaders who inspire them with emotional appeals to their values and ideals. Charismatic leadership style relies on the charm and persuasiveness of the leader. In this paper, explain the traits and characteristics of both visionary and charismatic leadership. Select one or two leaders that exemplify these leadership styles. Conclude with a summary of how these leadership dimensions are important to you and your own leadership development.
Your paper should begin with an explanation of the traits with at least three references. Next you should select a leader(s) that meets each assigned trait, then give a historical overview of the leader(s). You will need an additional three (3) references for the individual. Please include a reflection on how you can use these traits in your career and in your own leadership development.
This paper is to be a minimum of 2-4 full pages, no pictures, Times New Roman (12), 1.5 spacing, MLA citations for a minimum of six (6) different references, with a cover page and a Works Cited section listing your sources.

Visionary and charismatic leaders
Visionary leaders are known for articulating visions that improve current situations. Visions have to be thought about and planned for carefully. Therefore, visionaries are strategic thinkers and formulate strategies of pushing their vision forward. Moving towards a new vision is risky because there is no guarantee that the vision will be successful. However, as intelligent risk-takers, visionaries are comfortable with uncertainty and implement several measures to ensure the vision is a success (Avolio, p 30). Throughout their journey, visionaries have to stand up against politics, external pressures and old ideas. In such circumstances, resilience gives them the tenacity to move forward. On the other hand, positive body language is the defining trait of a charismatic leader. It helps them to be authentic and possess an endearing swagger that attracts people (Conger, p 1). Charismatic leaders are also skilled communicators. This trait is important when motivating followers during hard times. Charisma cannot exist without substance because people usually need something substantial. To a charismatic leader, charm brightens his/her face but substance closes the deal (Heracleous, p 140).
