Research "Leadership Success and Failure," and write a paper on the topic.
Many leaders across industry, government, entertainment and humanitarianism have discussed their success and have shared that much of their success was attributed to many obstacles that were overcome. In this paper, discuss the elements of leadership success as well as the repercussions and lessons learned regarding leadership failures. Select either one or two leaders and discuss both facets of their professional and/or personal lives with respect to both success and failures.
Refer to the instructions of this paper within this module as well as the syllabus for specific structure of leadership papers.
Your paper should begin with an explanation of the trait (or traits) with at least three references. Next you should select a leader(s) that meets the assigned trait(s), then give a historical overview of the leader(s). You will need an additional three (3) references for the individual. Next, please include a section on how you could use these ideas in your career and your leadership development.
This paper is to be a minimum of 2-4 full pages, no pictures, Times New Roman (12), 1.5 spacing, MLA citations for a minimum of six (6) different references, with a cover page and Works Cited section listing your sources, which is in addition to the 2-4 pages of text.
Leadership Success and Failure
Leadership success is integral to the performance of an organization. Three characteristics that define leadership success include empathy, effective communication, and problem-solving ability. The possession of these traits by a leader can help them succeed in the organizational setting. According to Parks, empathy is a desirable leadership trait in organizations, and it involves being other-oriented and an attentive listener (15). Through empathy, a leader can share experiences with followers that can motivate them to perform better. Effective communication is also an important trait for leaders in an organization. As informed by Mikkelson, York, and Arritola, effective communication is a vital leadership trait because it is associated with employee commitment, motivation, and satisfaction (336). Successful leaders are effective communicators because they can clearly explain plans, goals, and task details to their followers.
