Important traits of a leader
Leadership is a transaction between followers and leaders. Sincere followers create effective leadership conduct while good leaders turn people into good supporters (Gutermann 303). In this regard, respect is an important trait that enhances the reputation of a leader to his/her followers. Leaders who posses respect are bold enough to anticipate a paradigm shift and use that opportunity to confront the status quo with the aim of benefiting their followers (LLopis). Additionally, respect pushes leaders to lead from the frontline. This implies that they are not reluctant to undertake tough decisions regarding their followers. In extreme cases, they willingly support or oppose a particular action even if the odds are against them. Additionally, another defining trait of an effective leader is the confidence he/she has in his/her own abilities. In our ever changing world, it takes confidence to have an honest gauge of oneself and remain self-assured in life. Therefore, confidence requires the kind of courage that permits an individual to accept his/her values and handle external problems regardless of the situation the individual is in (Zaccaro, 27).
