What, By Your Understanding, Is Adaptation?
Essay Instructions:
Prompt: What, by your understanding, is adaptation? What do you think about when you think about adaptation, what is your attitude towards adaptation, and why do you think adaptation is such a common feature within literature, art, and film? How broad is the term adaptation; that is, when is something an adaptation, and when is it “inspired by” or “based on”? You do not have to answer all of these questions, but should consider them as potential questions to begin your thinking. If possible, engage specific examples of adapted texts and/or adaptations with which you are familiar in order to better illustrate your thinking.

WHAT, BY YOUR UNDERSTANDING, IS ADAPTATION?
Introduction
Literary adaptation refers to the conversion or transformation of literary sources such as a film, and a novel to another medium such as a stage play. Additionally, sometimes it may involve transforming the same literary work in the same medium. There are different reasons why adaptation is common in literature- it helps in converting the work to a various demographic group such as children, reducing the cast used in a literary work and easing the under...
