Is Wikipedia a good source of Information?
For quite some time, the debate about Wikipedia being a source of information has ensued between two sides. On one hand, people say that the site offers one of the largest and most helpful databases for information gathering. This is because the site is open to individual and institutional contributors making it as expansive as it is now. For this reason, a lot of people who have questions about a particular thing goes to the site first to find the information that they needed. On the other hand, however, there are also a lot of people who believe that because of its very nature – open contribution – the site should not be trusted especially when writing scholarly articles, which would have a bigger implication on society. In my opinion, both of these statements are correct. However, I still believe that Wikipedia is a good source of information. The reason for this is that despite the sites “openness” towards individual editors, falsified information could still be detected by other users and thus edit it themselves.
