What My iPhone Says About Me: Personality Check

Essay Instructions:

Choose the topic from the information provided
Analyze your wardrobe. For this scenario, assume meeting someone who has never seen you before. What might their first impressions be based on your wardrobe alone, and why (i.e. explain how you draw your conclusions)? What message does your clothing send to the world around you? Is there a message you are intentionally sending? Unintentionally sending? What does your clothing say about how you construct the image of yourself? Select 1-2 specific examples/articles of clothing to close read and analyze.
Analyze your musical choices. For this scenario, assume someone who has never met you before finds your iPod, MP3 player, &c. Based on your playlists, what would this person likely understand about you, your personality, &c.? What does your musical selection tell others about you? Look for possible trends in your playlist, and explain the significance. Select 1-2 specific artists, songs, or genres to close read and analyze.
Analyze an object. Similar to the choices above, select an object you own that you feel is connected to your identity in some way. Based on this object alone, what might someone understand about you? What assumptions come with said object? Do these assumptions line up, or might they be a contrast to your personality? Select 1 specific object or collection to close read and analyze.
Final Notes:
Your essay should have a clear thesis, but your intro should be no more than a few sentences. A conclusion is optional, but again should be no more than a few sentences.
A reflection essay requires in-depth analysis. You will be writing about yourself, which may require first person, but any example/evidence you use must be followed by detailed explanation and analysis. A good rule of thumb is 3-5 sentences of analysis for every sentence of evidence.
Be as specific as possible. For example, arguing that the fact that you have one genre more than any other on your playlist reveals that you like that genre is not substantial. Go beyond the obvious. Writing, "My clothes tell people I'm comfortable, I like the color blue, and so on," or, "People can tell that I like rock as well as Madonna," does not constitute an in-depth analysis. Explore the deeper significance of appearance and what it suggests about perceived personality and character.
Extensive summary will result in a failing grade. Remember: a reflection is not simply stating facts. It requires you to think about these prompts in detail and to analyze appropriate evidence.
No Works Cited is required as you should not use any sources but your wardrobe, music selection, or selected object.
Submit the final to Canvas by the end of the final; late finals will not be accepted.
