In The Voysey Inheritance, the author Harley Granville-Barker uses the life of a young man named Edward Voysey to showcase an uncommon dilemma while also revealing the moral decadence in the society. Well, Edward’s father had been using his clients’ money to enrich himself and his family. He had been running a Ponzi scheme where he was using his clients’ money to speculate on some businesses ventures which were of interest to him (Wittman). He was doing this without the consent of his clients and still managed to pay off any interests by working hard to ensure that he is always adding more clients who then make it possible to pay for the other clients who joined earlier. However, Edward is taken aback by what his father had been doing and through his dilemma, Harley is able to showcase how the society at large harbors certain rhetoric and also seem to be as morally blind as Edward’s father.
One of the things that stands from the play is that Edward is not like his father and the dilemma he is facing is a testament to this fact. However, looking at those around him, one is given a glimpse of the kind of
