Introduction
The level of veteran health care is one that is riddled with some very disturbing elements. These are aspects that need to be addressed given the level of need for the veterans. It is also a sector in health, where the policies should be more straightforward given the services that the veterans give to the country. It is not enough that they are battled at war to come home and become disillusioned about what exactly they have been fighting for all their lives. Below are two pieces that highlight some of the plights of the veterans.

In his article, Reforming Veterans Health Care: Now and for the Future, John O’Shea highlights the plight of the health care delivery system for the veterans. In reference to the situation, this is a system that needs to be reviewed and reformed for the future. The level of inefficiency in the system is so high that most of the veterans dies before they can receive medical care (O'Shea, John). It is also a system that has been burdened by corruption, to simulate a situation where there could be two or more systems running in parallel. O’Shea, mentions in the article some elements that are quite disturbing such the idea that there are secret waiting lists and excessive waiting lists. He also mentions that fact that, there are more than 238,000 who die before they receive care.
The author writes this paper to try and raise awareness of the glaring issues that are facing the veteran health care delivery systems in the country. This is in a bid to call for reforms in the health care sector to capture the short falls of a system that is failing and taking the lives of thousands of veterans in its wake (O'Shea, John). There is need for a comprehensive reform to ensure that veterans get the health care they deserve, with guarantee to quality, timely delivery and at affordable rates.
O’Shea further points out that in most of the cases where the systems is faced with such pressure to reform, much of the responses are reactionary other than sustainable reforms. He also claims that, much of the problems that the system is facing are systemic and may have started way back during the Second World War when the first reforms were effected through policies established by congress. O’Shea, points out that there two levels of reforms that have to be effected, these include the short term and the long term (O'Shea, John). In the case of the short term reforms, O’Shea recommends that access issues are settled, internal personnel and failures due to management should be resolved, accountability increased, clinicians increased, access to be determined by the specific circumstances and health needs other than distance and other arbitrary judgements as well streamlining the medical claims and payments.
