Unveiling ChatGPT's Potential: A Reaction to Noam Chomsky

Essay Instructions:

In Essay 1, you used an artifact to explain your identities and cultural values and used personal examples to illustrate your points. In this essay, you will read two articles on the topic of technology and society - Noam Chomsky's "The False Promise of ChatGPT" and Bronwyn Howell's "Social Media, Censorship, and Coddling Internet Users" - and will construct your own argument responding to one of these articles.
You will build on your writing skills learned in the previous unit and will learn how to write a persuasive essay and how to use outside sources to support your argument.
Your essay must take a clear stance in response to your chosen article. You may either disagree with the author (with reasons), or partially agree and disagree (again, with your own reasons). You do not have the option to completely agree with the author; you must engage with the author's argument.
Your essay should contain (near the beginning) a brief summary of your chosen author's argument.
Your essay should have:
        a bold claim,
        grounds for making that claim,
        a warrant,
        evidence from the assigned readings,
        a rebuttal, and
        a qualifier.
Follow the Toulmin structure. Do not forget to include a strong claim and a clear warrant.
MLA Format
YOUR ESSAY SHOULD BE IN MLA FORMAT which includes double spacing, indented first-line paragraphs, and 12-pt. Times New Roman font – see Purdue’s OWL website

        It should be at least
1000 words in length.
Make sure your paper is in MLA Style, and that you have not plagiarized any part of the work.

Unveiling ChatGPT's Potential: A Reaction to Noam Chomsky
Introduction
In his paper "The False Promise of ChatGPT," Noam Chomsky highlights legitimate issues concerning the limits of machine learning and how they affect ethical issues, language, and knowledge. Chomsky's assessment of ChatGPT and other systems emphasizes its flaws, but it is important to recognize their potential to revolutionize artificial intelligence. In this paper, I'll make the case that, despite Chomsky's reasonable concerns about the level of machine learning today, it's critical to acknowledge ChatGPT's transformational potential and its contribution to human comprehension, problem-solving, and creativity.
Chomsky's Argument in Brief
According to Chomsky, there is a considerable difference between how people conceive and use language and how machine learning systems like ChatGPT work. These systems are excellent at creating language that sounds like human speech, but they are not good at giving explanations, understanding causes, or exercising critical thought (Joy, 2019). Chomsky claims that ChatGPT places more of an emphasis on description and prediction than it does on comprehending the possibilities and impossibilities in a particular environment. It is unable to communicate sophisticated ideas, engage in moral deliberation, or grasp the subtleties of spoken language and deductive reasoning. Chomsky contends that without a better comprehension of basic concepts and ideas, machine learning algorithms like ChatGPT depend simply on statistical patterns and correlations. The limits of ChatGPT in causal understanding, perceptual reasoning, and moral reasoning highlight the key distinctions between actual human intelligence and machine learning algorithms. Although ChatGPT is excellent at producing language, it lacks the sophisticated traits that define true human intelligence.
Persuasive argument
Bold Claim
Despite Chomsky's skepticism, ChatGPT has the ability to increase human intellect, improve problem-solving skills, and promote creative thinking by offering fresh viewpoints and ideas. Enhancing Human intellect. ChatGPT may be a useful tool for enhancing human intellect because to its capacity for processing and analyzing enormous volumes of data. ChatGPT may help people make better judgements by gaining access to a broad variety of information, producing believable results, and providing fresh viewpoints(Montti, 2022). It serves as a potent cognitive companion, enhancing human cognition and enabling a deeper comprehension of complicated issues. In addition, Increasing Problem-Solving Capabilities. ChatGPT's skill in spotting patterns and figuring out statistical probability may greatly increase problem-solving skills. ChatGPT can swiftly analyze complicated data sets, spot patterns, and come up with solutions by using its computing capabilities. This may be especially helpful in fields like data analysis, scientific research, and corporate intelligence, where faster processing of information can result in better solutions to problems.
