Introduction: The author of yellow wallpaper is Charlotte Perkins, she was a governess who had a lonely childhood and born in 1860-1935. She was a teacher a designer of greeting cards; she married Charles Stetson, who was an artist. After several extended periods of depression and fighting to overcome it.John’s wife is very sick, he is a practicing Doctor and devoted to taking care of his wife, he is very positive in his thinking.
From the story, we may see that John is the criminal since he exercises his authority over his wife by being very strict with her and not allowing her to express herself. John is her Doctor and her husband in an attempt to help her recover from a Doctor's viewpoint, and his treatment method doesn’t go well as he had expected.
John is very confident in his thoughts in his mind all he wants to do is encourage his wife, by letting her know that she can overcome her sickness by initiating the power of positive thinking. John a very caring man, as we see from the story that he goes to the extent of asking some relatives to move in with them so that his wife’s morale can be boosted up.
The narrator describes her husband as a scoffer, and he is the kind of person that will take time to listen to people’s side of view but will hardly allow them to influence him. Perhaps because of his medical profession he stands unchallenged due to his broad knowledge. When his wife tries to express her thoughts and imaginations to her, he gives her a stern look that makes her chicken out and submits to his authority. He ends up confining Jane and locking her up in the house. John is a very strict man who is very narrow-minded, he consistently patronizes his wife. He refuses little things such as switching the bedroom so that she doesn’t involve herself with her so called fancies.John tells his wife to take self-control over her thoughts and behaviors and fantasies that by doing so she will recover quickly. Based on his clinical rationality he is unable to understand his imaginative wife. From the inside, he may seem that he doesn’t want to harm her but because he is ignorant and insensitive towards her this is enough to make her even worse. Though John misses his wife inside, but he stuck with the idea of seeing his beloved wife superficially. Since he was not treating his wife as a human being, but just like a mere case, he has practically ruined and destroyed the relationship he had with his wife. As a husband, it will be the last thing on his mind. To destroy his marriage, but when his wife refers to him as "that man", John himself has been devastated by his wife’s reaction.
