The Time Machine chapter 2 by H.G. Wells
The second chapter of the novel is one of the most fundamental and creates a different kind of aura to the entire story. All of the passages in the chapter are crucial to the building of the rest of the story, the direction it takes and the level of plausibility for the audience.
The second chapter is the backbone of the entire reading experience, as it creates a bridge between the first chapter and the rest of the ten chapters. For one to understand the importance of the second chapter in the novel, one would have to go back to the first chapter, so as to gain the flow and direction of the narrator. This will help the audience gain more confidence in the story and get convinced about the developments. Going back to the first chapter, the narrator is caught up in the efforts to try and convince the audience about the time machine and the time traveler. As he tries to explain to the audience about the ideas of time travel and how one man has been in a position to travel between different times in the past and in the future (Wells, 19).
Although the narrator is explaining about scientific eventualities, he seems to be using science fiction ideas to pass the message across. The more he tries to bring the audience to a point of understanding the basics of the story; he fails and leaves the audience more confused. As explained by the narrator, the time traveler seems like a brilliant person; however the audience still does not seem to feel in the gaps when the story is told by the narrator.
