The Role of Digital Technology in the Classroom.
Technology has revolutionized people's lives in varied ways, and for you people, it has been a breakthrough. As far as other learning practices are concerned, technology is an important entity that cannot be ignored. What are the benefits of digital technology in the classroom? What effect would it have on the learners? It would be absurd to look on the negative side of technology because it has changed the learning process positively. Imperatively, technology has enhanced creativity and productivity amongst learners and has a meaningful impact on the teachers. "too much of every is poisonous," Therefore, it is essential to have some guiding principles regarding the usage of electronic devices in the classroom. These principles would initiate the balance between reading and computing hence improving the students' grades. Kamenetz argues that technology has brought down the old version of reading and writing that has decreased creativity amongst learners (Bomber, p87-89).
I support the argument; however, I believe it would be more useful if learners were allowed to interact with electronic devices, of course, with a limit. Internet usage has become so enticing that it distracts the learning process. educationists claim that electronic devices are not so smart, and therefore, they have corrupted humanity's mind. It is also evident that students who consistently use their mobile phones in the classroom without concentrating on their tutors have a 10% performance drop (Bomber, p87-89).
What does this reflect? Man/s mind is elastic, meaning if it is exposed to one thing for a long time, it might become rigid to new things. In this case, a student would find it hard to read or write because they are addicted to the internet or their electronic gadgets. Surprisingly, most students have the misconception of multi-tasking, which does not work (Bomber, p87-89). Over-reliance on electronic devices makes learners lazy; for example, students who use tablets to write their notes are most likely to be verbatim. In this scenario, their writing skills will be adversely affected, which harm their performance. Remember, teachers would confiscate mobile phones from the students in school, and I did not understand its logic. However, everything was brought to light during the exam period when most students performed poorly due to mobile gadgets in...
