Unconsciousness is a state in which a person has reduced awareness of his or her surroundings, is without deliberate thoughts, and is less than normally responsive to stimuli such as light and sound. The concept of the unconscious was first developed in the period from 1895 to 1900 by Muckenhoupt, who developed theories about the unconscious mind and the mechanism of repression, and created psychoanalysis, a clinical method for treating psychopathology through dialogue between a patient and a psychoanalyst (therapeutic practice). The unconscious mind consists of the process in the minds that occurs automatically and are not available to introspection, and include thought process, memory, affect, and motivation (Muckenhoupt, 2).
The humans exist in common a conscious and unconscious dimension of life. With the conscious we are able to experience everyday life. The unconscious is a part of ourselves that kind remains in the background, but is in no way inactive or inert. According to the famous psychologist Carl Gustav Jung describes the unconscious as composed of hidden aspects of ourselves that continue to work on the conscious and thus on our everyday life, although we are mostly not aware of it. The unconscious tries to bring man back into balance. For instance there are many things we would like to do or have in life. Thus the unconscious will influence our behavior and actions in a way that will compensate .these unconscious tendencies can be stronger than our conscious, and can even go against our will (Jung, 22).
