Susan Orlean’s Essay, “The American Male at Age Ten”
Colin Duffy is a handsome kid with great ambition about his life. Colin is a good student in fifth grade with plans to go to Oklahoma City State College University to study law enforcement and work for the FBI. He works hard towards accomplishing his goals in life which makes Susan like Colin. Colin is an athletic individual with fast-food speed and a great physical appearance. The most impressive thing about Colin is the ability to plan his life and have a good goal for life. Colin plans to buy land in Wyoming after getting enough money from the job he will get in law enforcement. At ten years he spends time playing the lottery to win the lottery for the Wyoming land deal. His interests as a boy make Susan become very fond of him and wish to have a great relationship. Susan states that if she was to be married to Colin it will be a perfect match. Susan explains that they would wear baggy T-shirts, play Nintendo Street Fighter II, and eat pizza and candy (Orlean). Susan expects Colin to win the lottery and both will move to Wyoming and have every kind of cute animal. Susan would have a good life once she gets married to Colin. The knowing of crucial things in life makes Colin an admirable person.
