Suicide Bomber
These days suicide bombings amongst other terrorist acts have sparked a lot of fear and hate in the minds of each individual. From the attacks on 9-11 to the recent bombings in Europe and other parts of the world, one theme has resonated with what the attacks wanted in general – violence. These days, however, this terror has even become more morbid as the rise of “child suicide bombers” echoed in the news. On one hand, some people say that child suicide bombers must be condemned and that we must exercise a “cautionary stance” towards children (by themselves) to mitigate terrorist acts. On the other hand, there are also supporters of the idea that children are inherently innocent, and that it is through the presence of external pressures that they engage in such horrific actions. In this article, I would try to discuss both of these sides using the examples of two authors, namely Jack Gantos and Ruby Hamad. Jack Gantos is an American Author who mainly wrote children’s books and his short story entitled A Suicide Bomber sits in the Library was published in Amnesty International’s book Here I Stand. As for the article entitled A 12-year-old with explosives strapped to him is not a 'suicide bomber, this was written by Ruby Hamad, who was a writer for The Guardian.
