    In Shooting an Elephant George Orwell gives a recount of what happened while he lived in Moulmein in Burma. During that period he served in the capacity of an officer for the British Raj. Similarly, George Orwell’s story is related to that of Uncle Tom’s Cabin by Stowe regarding a slave that commences in a steamboat in the sea.
Systematically, the author of the book argumentatively explores a character who contemplates between the compulsory directive to shoot the elephant and his personal consideration to spare it. On the other hand, this argumentative tendency is exhibited in Stowe’s work where the slave on board a boat meets a five-year-old Evangeline whom he thinks he should save despite inhuman treatment accorded him by the girl’s ethnic group. Another person that is portrayed as holding this argumentative trait is Evangeline who devotes to convince her father, Augustine St. Clare, to acquire and own Uncle Tom.
In examining this narration, it is easy to note that the author systematically depicts the emotional pain and experiences that the sale of slaves produces in family set ups due to being torn apart. She also provides readers with the situation of compelled desperateness of victims as they took measures against these abuses. Like the reluctance in shooting an elephant despite the command to do so, Eliza in uncle tom’s cabin is hesitant to go away from the familiar and normal setting in which she grew up and the people she is acquainted.
