The two short stories are somehow related in some of the aspects. They seem to almost discuss related concept though some of the situations are different. Repent harlequin is basically talking about a situation where every individual`s heart is controlled by the tick tock man. When the duration of a person`s heart to remain on is over, such a person is switched off. The person thereby remains in active till when the next duration arises. The person will go to a period of being inactive. The other story the sliced crosswise only on Tuesdays, is talking about hibernation. Due to the presence of overcrowded population in the place, some people are supposed to be operating at certain days while others are hibernating. It is a plan that is instituted to assist in controlling the population congestion. The attempt is quite good as depending on a person`s occupation, there are days where one is active while others, a person remains in the eternal cylinders. The people spend the required time there until the next period of being actives comes along. As there are different days, there are different people and the way they operate. That is the reason that there is a situation where Tom falls in love with a girl who belongs to another day. That means that the two can no longer be together as they operate in different times. That serves the reason why the Tom works so hard to be transferred to the other day (Mike pp 150).
