Sasha Blake and Redemption
Sasha Blake and Bennie had a long history between them. Being two of the main characters in the story, these two characters have affected their character development and their quest for redemption. Back in his high school days, in 1979, Bennie Salazar was the leader of The Red Flamingo Dildos band, all together with his circle of friends, among other peers. Back then, he was head over heels with Alison, but the unfortunate thing is Alison and her affection was won over by Scotty, Bennie's friend. He got The Red Flamingo Dildos into the Mabuhay Gardens, or as what they called it, the "Mab," to play a gig that turned out quite a mess, but through the trending punk scene in San Francisco Bennie met with a producer named Lou Kline, who later on, became his mentor. Then in the book, we see that Bennie eventually came as a representative of the Conduits as found a job at Sow's Ear Records and became successful with the help of his assistant named Sasha, whom he met at a party when he was at his 20s. From his ex-wife, Stephanie, he has a child, a son, named Chris, who he once lived within the upscale neighborhood of Crandale. Slowly, as he found himself inevitably aging, he realized that he was losing his touch and found out that he missed the way music used to be-- unrefined, raw, and something coming from the soul, something real.
Sasha and Bennie had a complicated relationship. Since she was his assistant, Bennie's actions affected her deeply. For example, Bennie has a habit of scribbling down things he has a fond memory of, things that just suddenly appear into his conscious and that are precious to him. In this book we find a very unusual something Bennie also do, he consumes gold as a remedy, no, a cure, to erectile dysfunction, which he habitually mixes in with his coffee, subsequently after browsing through her favorite book on traditional Aztec medicine, which says that both coffee and gold could be an excellent way to ensure sexual potency. Bennie's goal was more basic than potency: sex drive, his own having mysteriously expired, also he was thinking that it will revitalize the thrill and excitement he despairingly wants from life.
