Tragedy in Romeo and Juliet
In dramatic literature, many characters are responsible for the tragedy or the outcome. In Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, the guilt is taken from each aspect of the play, and it affects all the outcomes of the play. Various characters are responsible for the death of Romeo and Juliet, but the guiltiest of them all is Capulet.
Although Capulet may have wanted the best for his daughter, he did not think about how she felt thus he forced her to get married to Paris. The forced marriage caused many problems that led to Juliet’s tragic end. Juliet did not want to marry somebody who she felt no love that is the reason why she wanted to escape that marriage. The method of her escape was death. The Capulet’s forceful acts are seen in Act 1 scene two, where he is seen arranging her daughter’s marriage without her consent. Paris had doubts about Juliet loving him, but Capulet responded with, “Of my child’s love: I think she will be ruled. In all respects by me; nay, more, I doubt it not” (1:2:13-14). Stating that he not only knows that Juliet will love Paris, but she must love him. At the time when Juliet refuses to marry Paris, Capulet shouted, “To go with Paris to Saint Peter’s Church, or I will drag thee on a hurdle thither” (5:3:154-155) thus making Juliet agree to go to the church. Although she agreed to go, she thought,” I'll to the friar, to know his remedy; if all else fail, myself have the power to die."(5:3:241-242). the above quote means that she did not want to marry Paris and wanted to die fi...
