Rise of Mongol Empire
The Mongol Empire, considered as the dominant empire in history, extended its dominance from Japan to the Carpathian Highlands. Its rise in the steppes of Mongolia during the thirteenth century occurred because of the uniting of the Mongol tribes who during the 1100s stood divided. However, through the exceptional and robust leadership of Genghis Khan, a warrior, strategist and general, the clan overpowered its neighbors, consequencing in the establishment of the most extensive empire in history. The process to the top of the Mongol Empire progressed slowly and in an arduous process. Despite its short-lived dominance, its strengths through a resilient and capable leader saw them accomplish numerous conquests and political achievements making it a successful empire.
Mongolian Empire is one of the most influential empires ruled by Genghis Khan, a political and army leader who viciously conquered and unified the Mongol tribe and founded the Mongol Empire in world history. Born in 1162CE to a tribal chief and his wife, Genghis Khan, also known by his birth name Temujin, grew up among three brothers a sister and two half-brothers. Just like numerous other nomads in Mongolia, Temujin’s life while young faced difficulties due to diverse climatic conditions that saw his family migrate to the south during the cold winters and the north during late spring and winter (Man 1-3). Additionally, the Borjigin Clan, to which they belonged, abandoned them in an attempt to avoid feeding them, thereby forcing him and mothers to support themselves. Nevertheless, all these occurrences hardened and prepared him to become a leader.
As an astounding military leader, Khan led a well-organized and robust military that was key in fulfilling his objective of expanding. The army adopted fighting and multiple assaults in a coordinated manner by restraining resources for capitals and townships by sidetracking certain rivers, taking opponent prisoners and driving them in the glare of the military (May 1223-1224). Additionally, Khan’s rise to power unified the tribe of Mongolian, making them an excellent fighting force, trained, efficient and disciplined to conquer various lands. His ruthlessness, smartness, and ambition helped him be feared and respected. Eventually, by 1227 when he died, the empire had expanded to about 970,000 square miles of land from the Sea of Caspian Sea to Japan Sea and further, inspiring sustained expansions by future generations.
The Mongol Empire achieved conquests in vast parts of China, Russia, Mongolia, Azerbaijan, and Iraq among others. The Empire began its quest by instituting small-scale raids in Central Asia of Western Xia in 1205 and 1207, whereby they invaded the Jin Empire in Northern China, whose subjects were dissatisfied with the rule of the Jin.
