Reflection
As an English major student in writing and literature, I have acquired knowledge and skills that can help me venture and perfectly fit in any field. English writing and literature has endowed me with art and craft when it comes to composing persuasive prose. It has furthered, well still, my critical thinking in this challenging environment.
The study of English writing and literature through e learning has impacted me with not only essential but necessary skills. Communication skills are one of the major and most essential skills that I apply in my day in day out life. Communication can be either oral or written. Through communication skills, am in a better position to define my audience and present assertively an idea. This encompasses constructing an effective argument and deliver background information concerning various issues. The general outlook here is, that I can communicate effectively an idea or argument.
English and literature and writing have made me to be more sensible to my operational environment. I am sensible on how circumstances at hand, the state of being an author and target audience shape and effect communication. I am also sensible of how powerful language is to bring out meaning. This means that whenever I want to communicate something, I must do it in such a way that the intended meaning is communicated to avoid confusion and misinterpretation.
I am aware that language and meaning is affected by different cultural and social contexts. And therefore depending on what culture, I am able to watch my diction. Through the study of English literature, I have come to understand different cultural and social backgrounds. Depending on whatever culture, I can communication effectively to bring out the intended meaning.
The skills I have acquired from English writing and literature help me write and speak fluently. This fluency in speech and writing is in conjunction with precision clarity. Through this power of language, I have learnt different methods in which I can persuade my audience. I can also say that I can examine spoken language or a text critically and in details to deduce meaning and interpret it articulately to my target audience.
I have been impacted with skills in research too through the study of English writing and literature. In research, I can employ the skills acquired in English to collect materials of research, sift and sort them to extract relevant information concerning my research subject. I am also able to carry out projects and their presentations either individually or as a group effectively and timely.
