Unit 3: Research Project Final Draft-Racial Sentencing and Mass Incarnation
Today, the U.S has the world's highest number of mass incarnation cases, as well as the number of people in prisons. The rate of mass incarnation in the United States had doubled since the early 1970s when mass incarnation was introduced in the U.S Criminal Justice System. However, the rate of incarnation had stabilized from the 1920s to the 1960s. The mass incarnation was introduced in the U.S to reduce the rising number of criminal cases related to rape, felony, murder, and drug trafficking. Several measures were introduced to curb these criminal activities. Some of these measures included; increased jail time, street-level arrests for drug traffickers, and parole use, among others. After fourteen years of mass incarnation, the number of mass incarnation is still high in the U.S despite the implementation of more stringent measures. Furthermore, the use of mass incarnation on war against violent crimes has resulted in more social-cultural issues. Some of these measures have been used as punishment targeted against specific communities. African- American citizens are the most affected group due to continuous racial profiling associated with the use of parole and street-arrests in the U.S thus, a high number of African-Americans held behind bars in the U.S.
Racial Sentencing in the U.S
Mass incarnation has resulted in a high rate of African-Americans in U.S prisons. The leading cause of this social problem is because the mass incarnation is conducted based on race. Therefore, reforms of mass incarnation have not only increased the number of Americans facing length jail terms but also used as a tool to punish the African-American community. According to research conducted by Wilderman (154), mass incarnation has resulted in racially discriminatory practices such as racial profiling and preferential treatment in the U.S justice system. Furthermore, there were more blacks associated with drug trafficking compared to white counterparts. Racial sentencing does not only revive racism in the U.S but also poses a different way of punishing Americans belonging to the minority communities. The mass incarnation was meant to reduce violent crimes and not discriminate specific communities based on color. 
Arguably, the increased rate has resulted in mass incarnation reforms, not meeting its set goals. The U.S prisons have the highest prison population. Research by Roberts (1271) studied the social and moral costs of the mass incarnation in the African-American communities. The research found out that more young blacks came into contact with the criminal justice system during their teenage years. The majority of this population was either on probation, parole, or in jail. Therefore, the implementation of mass incarnation in the U.S has ended up discriminating the black minority communities (Roberts 1272). Furthermore, it was noted that the families of the blacks who are jailed end up losing good care and losing a job.
