Argument Assignment - Reflective Writing Prompt
For this reflective assignment, you will write a letter to yourself about your argument paper with a particular emphasis on the key term “audience” and how your approach to writing may have changed. Write this letter as though you are giving advice to yourself as a writer. Your letter should be approximately 600 words.
Your letter should include some discussion of the following:
• How did your awareness and perception of your audience contribute to your writing? (For example, did you have a real-world audience in mind or did you have to “imagine” an audience? How did that audience’s possible stances, values, knowledge, etc. affect your approach to supporting your argument?)
• How did your experiences with the previous papers this semester affect your writing and your writing process for this paper? (For example, what did you bring with you from those papers that you found helpful – or perhaps unhelpful – for this one? What might you use or not use in the future?)
• Use examples from the mentor texts and the paper you just completed to support your discussion of the above two points.

The writing course was of great help because it taught me how to find a good argument. In this essay, I had to write how technology can shape or ruin our lives, and when I began writing the essay, I had to focus on both the pros and cons of technology. At the same time, I kept my target audience in mind. There has been much debate about the effects of technology and arguments are heated on both sides; it could not be possible for me to develop my opinion until or unless I was clear about the advantages and disadvantages of technology. In Finding the Good Argument OR Why Bother With Logic, Rebecca Jones mentions that logic simply means reasoning (Jones 163), and I think that this point is quite valid and authentic. There should a reason for writing everything and if a student is not clear about the purpose and significance of an essay, they may never be able to provi...
