Analysis Reflective Essay: I Know Why the Caged Bird Cannot Read
You’ve read Francine Prose’s essay and undoubtedly have had some reaction to it. Using your own experience in one of your high school English classes (or other like and similar experience), write a Reflective-Analysis essay that takes a position on the issues raised by Prose and uses your own experience to advance your argument. In this essay, you should do the following:
Clearly identify Prose’s main argument(s).
Include a strong thesis claim in which you take a position on the issues she raises in her argument. You may defend, challenge, or qualify the assertions she has made.
Include analysis of your own experience to support your thesis claim.
Include two other sources that address similar issues to those Prose has raised. You may also utilize as one of your sources a speech or interview Prose has done in which she discusses these issues, or well-regarded periodicals where someone is addressing specifically Prose’s essay.
Provide a Works Cited page.
