Essay Instructions:

Students will compose a brief essay that takes all the genres of writing they've explored this term (writing that informs, writing that analyzes, and writing that persuades) and uses skills learned in each project to push beyond mere information, analysis, and persuasion and drives deeper to reflect upon a core idea or belief. This will force students to reflect on the work they have completed throughout the course in order to compose an essay that reaches beyond the surface to explore the value of an idea, belief or conversation and articulate that in writing.
Over the course of this semester you have undertaken three significant writing projects that have each been broken down into a series of steps and exercises. Developing these projects has taught you much about how to plan and organize a research project, how to go about framing a paper for a target audience, how to shape your content to a specific type of written genre as well as how to craft sentences and paragraphs. You've also gained more insight into your own unique writing process. For your final exam each of you should write at least 500 words explaining and reflecting upon what you have learned this term. You will be graded upon the thoughtfulness of your reflection and analysis of the material covered, as well as the clarity with which you articulate this information.
Part B
After watching the TED talk by Adam Savage entitled "My Love Letter to Cosplay" and Alison Sander's TED talk on "Megatrends," what pop culture obsession do you recall from your childhood or what trend do you recognize beginning to take hold at this current moment? What trend or iconic object/event did you at one time or do you currently embrace? Write an essay in which you both reflect on this and analyze it's social/cultural context and connection. As you reflect on it now, what does that trend reveal about that moment in our cultural history? and even more, what do you see in yourself that connected you to that trend--what does your embrace of it reveal about the kind of person you would become today? Aim for approx. 600-800 words.

Reflection on the semesters work
Throughout the semester, I have learned a lot of helpful tips when it comes to the writing of projects that are based on essays. Making a comparison of the essays that I used to write at the beginning of the semester to those that I can write at the end of the semester, there is a great difference. Among the tips that I have learned are the different ways of shaping the content to the required genre, the organization of a project, framing a paper in relation to the target audience and the crafting of paragraphs and sentences.
In regard to the shaping of content to the required genre, I have learned that it is important to fully understand the project in order to come up with a reasonable topic. Once a personal has understood the project, it becomes easy for them to choose a topic that is related to the specific genre. As a result, it will be easy to come up with ideas that would, in turn, make up the required content of the paper. On the hand, lacking the experience of matching a topic to a specific genre, it can be difficult to come up with the required content.
In addition, I have learned the organization of a project according to the required format. Most of the formats require that a project has an introduction, a body, and a relevant conclusion. Once the project has been organized in such a manner, it will be difficult to put down the ideas in a chronological manner. Therefore, I can even complete my projects in a short period of time because I used to spend a lot of time brainstorming ideas due to the lack of a concrete format.
Also, I have learned to frame my ideas so that the paper can meet the intended target. The relevance of paper in regard to its audience plays a substantial role in ensuring that individuals can understand its purpose. On the other, if a paper does not fit the targeted audience, then it becomes difficult to identify it as a good quality paper because it lacks a purpose. It's like totally writing a wrong project because the audience is part of the papers main aim.
To add on, I have also learned a lot regarding the organization of sentences and paragraphs. In order to come up with a good essay, one has to organize their paragraph in a chronological order of their importance. In most projects, the strongest points are written first while the weak points come later. The organization of a paragraph has to begin with the topic sentence, an explanation of the subject found in the topic sentence and a conclusion. As well, an example clarifying the topic sentence can also be added. The topic sentence consists of one of the items that were mentioned in the thesis statement hence making it easy to organize the paragraphs.
