Jon Grinspan addresses the most current social phenomenon by drawing its roots from history. It is true that millennials have a hard time finding their path in life. They cannot hold jobs, tend to be mentally unstable, and are socially and emotionally immature. But as we see, this is not a new problem. As Grinspan points out, it was evident in the industrialization era within America. The comparison one can draw between today and the industrialization era is the rapid change in the economic, social, and political structure of the world. Similar to the 19th century, the 21st century has experienced rapid changes caused by digitalization. These changes have affected the political, social, and economic pillars of life. As a result, this has changed millennials’ perception of the world. In an attempt to understand the world, millennials have, therefore, become more confused and likely to exhibit eccentric traits.
Millennials today are in their early twenties. An age that brings with it lots of social and economic anxiety. As pointed out by Grinspan, social anxiety plays a significant role at this age because marriage is the next step of life. Yet, Grinspan points out that this was a common problem among young adults during industrialization. Therefore, the point here could be that people should stop trying to fix millennials because, as history has shown, life always presents a solution.
