For the people who have made reading dystopia a hobby, I think Orwell has shown expertise in this area in his book 1984. The author through his choice of words has created a horrible world which causes a feeling of depression to the reader as they move from one page to the other. In comparison to today's modern fiction, the book is more of a novel more than anything else. Reviewing the entire book generally, I think it has taken a lot when it comes to the story telling methods. Just to talk generally before I stick to where the assignment requires me to; the book is divided into three parts. It is however not dynamic from the start until towards the end of chapter II that the action starts. A reader might think it is more of an essay than a book.
The book has hardly any dialogue. This makes reading boring. It also slows down the reader and kills the reader’s enthusiasm and interest. The direction the thoughts of the book have taken is mainly the Winston’s. This makes the internal reflection by the reader to slow them down. This is especially seen in chapter 2.
The book is saturated with lots of philosophy, ideas, and theories. The book provokes thoughts. It has a lot of theorizing not leaving behind explaining. This is especially the part where it is more or less like a book inside a book. Winston reads a huge passage of a book in the book. The explanation, theorizing that follows makes it good for historical research.
