Prompting Alexander Hamilton Custom House Essay Paper
The essay on Alexander Hamilton Custom House is the most improved assignment on my list of activities in this semester. This is a history essay paper that I did in early November this year. The paper entails a lot of terminologies on art, and that was not very easy for me. This is one of the most challenging essays I did this semester given that it required a lot more research than most other assignments. It was also interesting to go through the process of the research. More importantly, through the revision, I learned a lot about my topic of research. However, I noted areas of revision that I had to on this essay paper to perfect it for grading. The major crucial points noted in the revision included the choice of sources, chronological arrangement of ideas, and use of abbreviations.
The choices of sources for this research had to adhere to the scholarly guidelines. The sources had to be in MLA, more preferably sixth edition and there was no need for endnotes or footnotes. For instance, “Franklin envisioned a strong Federal government with an active executive branch, strong economy, a national bank, strong as well as promoting manufacturing IV.” Instead, the revision made replace the notes with citations. For instance, “Franklin envisioned a strong Federal government with an active executive branch, strong economy, a national bank, strong as well as promoting manufacturing,” (Mohibullah and Lund, 215). Additionally, the revision noted some sources that were not scholarly articles. Although it was more difficult to identify scholarly articles, I learned how to identify and generate scholarly articles. For example, “Majority of the paneling within the Collectors’ Office was enabled by woodworking studio by Louis Comfort, which was still under his watch before selling focus on glass (Ugc, n.p.).” Instead, I replaced the article with a scholarly article, “Majority of the paneling within the Collectors’ Office was enabled by woodworking studio by Louis Comfort, which was still under his watch before selling focus on glass (Priest, 549).” Therefore, this essay assignment was the most crucial for me in this semester because it helped me learn more about scholarly articles, citation, and preparing of the reference list, that is, Works Cited and not Citation.
The essay paper also helped me learn more about presenting a more chronological work. Chronological work requires that the ideas presented in a written work flow in the way the ideas are presented.
