Pornographic Participation And Loss Of Respect

Essay Instructions:

Do you feel that people who have participated in the production of pornography, be it in the front of the camera or behind it, lose a certain level of credibility/respectability? If so, is this a deserved repercussion? Should they expect to meet with resistance when, later in life, they choose to pursue more traditional professions? Explain and defend your position.

Name: Institution: Course: Date: Pornographic Participation and Loss of Respect Pornographic acting is currently a business involving both writing and acting on visual materials purposefully to arouse viewers. Such materials are accessible from live stream actions in clubs, pictures, magazines and movies among others. The actors participate both either in front or behind as well as both. However, the repercussion of such endeavors leads to loss of respect to the actors with many actors facing resistance in their later lives to choose a different career. Actors in pornography do not deserve the ill-treatment in their future lives with a negative perception of the society even if they positively participated in the loss of self-respect. I oppose the idea that pornographic actors should meet resistance and lose respect in their new career areas after quitting the act. Actors in pornographic films and magazines usually develop stress disorders especially after quitting the industry to follow other career paths. Therefore, the actors do not perform well in their new areas of the profession due to lack of respect. According to Jennie Ketcham who is a Huffington Post blogger, the author indicates that actors in pornographic videos or magazines undergo traumatic activities and they experience various signs of post-traumatic stress disorders when they quit the industry which makes them unsuccessful in their new career endeavors (Hatch 1). Therefore, they do not deserve the harsh treatment. Instead, they need rehabilitation and counseling. In support of the argument on the development of stress disorders, Luanne Cole who is a psychologist noted that actors who have been in the industry for a long time develop unique behaviors such as preference to group sex and sadomasochistic (Hatch 1). Such behaviors sometimes become prominent in their new areas of work that enable the actors to lose the respect that they earn. Due to such lack of respect in the society, many of the actors have no alternative way to get income for survival hence hope to remain in the industry for fear of losing their dignity in the new areas of work (Hatch 1). Thus, the actors need positivity and encouragement to find the best ways to conform to the society as they seek new ways to earn a living. Secondly, pornographic actors especially women lose their credibility and become only sexual objects with low dignity. In typical situations, people usually have ambitions in life and strive to achieve their goals. The actors have children and families to take of hence they deserve a chance to transform their lives to right people in the society. However, many people view the actors in the pornographic industry as objects that only deserve harsh treatments. For instance, women actors get worst treatment in the society. Most people treat women actors as objects with no emotions especially those who embrace the acting in front of the camera. According to Kurt et al., on their article Does Pornography Treat Women as Objects?, the authors noted that women who expose their nakedness obtain more reduction and objection in their agency ascriptions wit...
