Should ESports be fully classified as a Real Sport

• You need 3 reasons to support your side of the issue. These will become your main ideas in the speech.
• You need 2 - 3 DIFFERENT pieces of evidence that come from research (a source other than you) to support EACH reason.
• Types of evidence:
o Statistics
o Anecdotes - stories from people who have experience with the topic o Expert opinion - someone who is qualified to speak on the topic through education or work experience
o Studies - conducted by qualified individual, group, or organization • Evidence needs to be RELEVANT to the SPECIFIC reason and not just the topic in general o Example: College athletes should be paid because they bring in a lot of money for the school.
■ These athletes work hard - training up to 40 hours a week = NOT RELEVANT
■ According to a Business Insider report, there are now 24 schools that make at least $100 million annually from their athletic departments = RELEVANT

Keeping Track of Evidence and Sources• Use the "Persuasive Speech Organizer" to keep track of evidence and sources
o In each box, write down the information/actual piece of evidence (don't forget quotation marks) and then put A LINK TO THE SOURCE under the evidence, o There is space for 3 pieces of evidence for each reason, but it's up to you whether you want to use 2 (minimum) or 3 (maximum) for each reason.
• You can get more than one piece of evidence from the same source.
• There is no minimum number of sources; there is only a minimum number of pieces of evidence (2-3 per reason).• You are required to turn in a Works Cited page with your speech.

Credible SourcesWhat sources are considered credible?
• articles from established and trusted publications - newspapers, journals, magazines, ESPN, History Channel, etc.
• materials published within the last 10 years;
• research articles written by respected and well-known authors;
• websites registered by government and educational institutions (.gov, .edu, .ac);
• academic databases (e.g. Opposing Viewpoints - password is Shriners)
• materials from Google Scholar
