Desdemona, Emilia and Bianca are portrayed from a male’s perspective as either good natured or ‘whores’ depending on how their spouses feel about them in different scenarios. 2. The women are completely passive.
Women are not passive entirely; Desdemona may be naïve at first when she is accused of infidelity and she is passive, as she does not object to what her husband says. Emilia is not passive at all times and disagrees with the ill treatment of women by the men3. Each women is defined by her male partner.
Their male characters, whereby jealousy in their men leads to many negative consequences for the women, define the women. Othello murders his wife following suspicions of marital infidelity. Bianca who has a less prominent role in the story, and agrees to do what her lover says even when she suspects he is cheating.
