How to diversity is prone to social conflict
Diversity can be defined as the aspect of recognizing that every person is unique and understanding people’s differences (Queensborough Community College). It ranges along various dimensions such as; sexual orientation, ethnicity, race, ideologies, physical abilities, and socioeconomic status. When people fail to embrace diversity positively, it can lead to diversity conflicts (Friedman and Davidson). Diversity conflicts can be described as disputes between two or more parties holding different socio groups such as; age, gender, sex, race, spiritual practices, and human differences. In this paper, I will describe the diversity and illustrate the factors that make it prone to causing social conflicts. I will also use a historical musical known as classical blue to explain how the negative approach of diversity led to oppression of the marginalized group.
In this paper, I have used a piece of traditional music known as classical blue as an example to discuss how African Americans felt segregated in Europe due to their race and cultural differences. This type of diversity conflict was based on oppression (Queensborough Community College). This because the diversity fights were between the whites who were the dominant group and the African Americans who were the marginalized group. Since they were from a different race, they were subjected to slavery (Brazzel). They worked in the Europeans cotton farms at little or no pay. Due to this oppression and humiliation, they decided to start Blue music. Blue music was based on the oral tradition of Africans and white folk music. It emphasized on the artist-audience relationship, impulsive expression, and creativeness. These elements enhanced music development, which created an excellent foundation for the industry, which is used up to today's music.
