Similarities in Thematic Analysis
Contextual analysis between different forms of art is important in order to understand how pieces relate to both the external environment and the internal mentality of the artist. Accordingly, an analysis of the different kinds of art existing in different time periods would give the reader a better perspective about the realities that were happening during that period. In this article, I would like to focus on the ‘mockummentary’ entitled This is Spinal Tap. The film portrays a seemingly true to life documentary of a popular rock band, which subtly emphasizes different kinds of social issues that exist in the society. All in all, I believe that by looking at the film at a deeper perspective, it becomes easier to understand both the creator’s mindset and the external environment where he lives in.
Similarities and Differences
One of the most interesting aspects of the film is its significant difference between other documentary films of the 1970s or the 1980s, especially those that focus on the lives of rock stars. Particularly, an analysis of older films would show that their primary focus is how big and successful the rock stars have become by showing girls, money, and other kinds of commodities, among others.
