Muhammad Ali was the greatest heavyweight champion boxer that graced the 20th century, having won 56 times in his 21 year boxing career. Other than boxing Ali was also outspoken in issues of race, religion and politics making one of the controversial figures of his time. He was an inspirational figure in America and beyond with his firm and proclaimed stands on politics of race and the importance of religion. He presented a character that was proud to be black. He came at a time when the African Americans were being treated as second class citizens. As such, his pride as an African American in the face of the racial prejudice that existed in America at the time was inspiring. He came of as a great boxer and a person of great moral courage along with a social conscience that was ever consistent. He gave a voice to the struggles of the African Americans and became an example to emulate in the society.
