Debt in College
In light of the fact that most of the colleges offer the students from the poor background, a ticket to their financial and professional breakthrough that never is; this is a sad story and one that requires to be addressed at the policy levels. Educational institutions take advantage of the poor families such as is the case with Luisa. At the individual level, there is the prospects of being the light of the family and the rest of the members are looking up with hope. There is a huge burden as one is supposed to perform and get into a good job where they can then uplift the rest of the family. However, where the family struggles to now raise the rest of the money that the institutions do not mention, this now becomes a challenge. At the society level, this is foul practice and one that leaves people in more debt. Every family unit in the community that is struggling to pay for the fees for their children is a representation of the society at large. The families are tricked into making the commitment for their child financially, only to realize that they are only falling into more debt. What is more saddening is the fact that, the greater majority that join the institutions in the name of gaining access to education and achieve better lives do not complete their studies.
