Marcus Aurelius
Marcus Aurelius is one of the most respected and best emperors of the Roman history. He is renowned for his philosophical interest and was born to a rich family. Throughout his childhood, Marcus dedicated himself to his studies and learned Greek, Latin, and other languages. Just like his father, he showed a great interest in stoicism, a philosophical concept that emphasizes reasons, self-restraint, and destiny. Though his grandfather thought good manners and his father made him understand what morality and honesty were, Marcus Aurelius’ most significant influence was philosopher Epictetus whose work (The Discourses) encouraged Marcus to come up with his own texts (Aurelius 17).
