An Important Learning Experience: An unpleasant confrontation
I recall when I was a young girl, I was the most obedient child in our family, and one thing I was afraid of was to be punished for doing anything wrong. My parents had strict rules and anyone who broke any of them would be denied several privileges like playing out with friends. I was terribly afraid of being caught doing anything wrong. I did not have the courage to go against any of my parent's rules. If I was told not to watch television until I had completed my homework or not to play with children within the neighborhood, I would really do that without thinking twice about it.
My mothers' younger sister would shower with presents every time she visited, praising my mother for raising us with high standards. These were some of the motivating factors that made me be obedient. I remember one time when I was 7years old; my older brother bought two big lollipops and refused to share with me. My mother always insisted that we share anything even if it was small, but that day my brother said that he used his hard-earned money and I did not deserve even a piece because I did not work for it.
I sulkily told him that I will get my own money to buy a bigger lollipop than his. I did not know that taking my parent's money would offend them the way it did. Bef...
