Change plays a vital role in the creation of a sustainable future across the world. Social changes focus on amending the society values and cultures towards improvements in the direction of perfection. According to Fadaak et al. (130), change involves the alteration of social order in a community through adjusting the behavior, social institutions, and relations. Typically, the social change affects the social evolution where society makes the amendments to traditional societal norms leading to the necessary change. With societal changes, more information can be available to communities, which enables them to make informed decisions hence increased awareness more understanding.
The societal changes can be attributed to modifications at personal levels, which informs the obligation and inspiration needs to undertake group and community change. Similarly, the English society has recorded tremendous differences in religious practice, political backgrounds, education, spiritual practice, law and order, economic systems, and social trade-offs to mention a few. According to Fadaak et al. (138), the evolution in the English society values can be stemmed to the changes in democracy, liberalism, technology, and capitalism. While the primary purposes of marriage such as companionship, protection, inclusiveness, satisfaction have remained unchanged; relationships have changed with dating opposed to courtship become normal, free engagement without commitment as well as free love being rampant.
Today, English societies marriages are characterized by loveless, same-sex as well as mutually marriages. This shows a significant shift from Shakespeare’s era, where love and marriage were primarily practical. During this period, marriage symbolized critical unions that were as vital as a political and economic institution; in fact, it was a way the upper class signed peace treaties and created war. Throughout the Shakespeare era, class, money, and alliance governed and regulated marriage. Marriage was considered as a strategic tool to establish and strengthen diplomatic and trade ties.
           In their pieces, both Shakespeare and Austen present the imperfections in culture from their perceptions. Shakespeare and Austen portray the central issues that are witnessed in everyday life amongst their societies, such as men and women responsibilities, marriage, and separation in the upper and lower classes. In both eras, marriage is presented as being practical.
