HOW IS MEXICO A WEAK AND CORRUPT COUNTRY?
Mexico is a country with massive potential, which is evident in the overall ranking as the third country in North America region. However, many factors have contributed to the country being branded as weak and corrupt. This ranges from slow economic growth, high level of unemployment, underpaid workers and employing non-trained employees. On the other hand, corruption is deeply rooted in this country culturally and at all levels of the society. There is the power of monopolists, drug mafias and party bosses.
For instance, in the last past five years the economic freedom in the country of Mexico plummeted by 1.4 points. Economic freedom is the core factor that provides opportunities and improved quality of life. It gives a country the freedom to choose how to sell, produce, use resources and at the same time respecting people’s rights. When there is a decline in economic freedom, it indicates a weak country and shows the difference between the countries that thrive and those that are left behind (Heritage.org).
In turn, due to the lowered economic freedom, this has led to increasing levels of poverty due to low income and less unemployment. The unemployment rate is at 5%. On the other hand, the poorly paid employees like the Mexican police are tempted by drug mafias. They say that the drug mafias will offer them $500 per day, and they are on a monthly salary of $460. For this reason, the underpayment causes a chain of problems. The country is weak because of the poverty levels and the low standards of living that people lead. On the other hand, the rate of corruption will upsurge daily because the benefits are irresistible (Cevallos).
