The Hobbit by J.R.R Tolkien
Literature plays a central role in educating on the history of the modern society through the presentation of various facts. In this view, there is need to appreciate different sources of literature such as poems and books written by different individual. On the same note, there is need to agree that some book authors have used various literal style to develop their content and character across a broad spectrum. A playwright like J. R. R. Tolkien has used the character Bilbo as an epic hero in the play in various ways to shape and give meaning to the entire short story. Given such a realization, there is need to comment more about the epic hero given the case that it has been used on many occasions by traditional authors and ancient playwrights. The discussion of typical epic hero will significantly, given meaning to J. R. R. Tolkien work given that it will prove whether the character Bilbo fits as an anti hero or just a typical epic hero person. The Quote “There is more in you of good than you know, child of the kindly West. Some courage and some wisdom, blended in measure. If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world” (Tolkien chapter 12). Bilbo qualifies as the typical anti hero character in the play given the case that he displays certain character traits that are commonly associated to the reader. A more simple way to elaborate the definition of such a character develops in the sense that the epic hero person is one that holds character traits that vary from the anti heroic elements. As a protagonist in the story, Bilbo is presented as the less of an important personality in the novel given the case that he is the main person that tends to fight the antagonist in the play. Such a statement means that he displays a high level of charisma as compared to other character in the play. Particularly, he has the affiliation to always do the right thing that is unexpected of him. A point to note, he depicts certain features that would effectively fit in the children’s literature given the fact that his size is one that would amaze people (Tolkien 167). For example, one would not picture such a character to be an anti hero given that the traditional viewpoint or perspective of the hero is one that has great size and poses immense strength. Importantly, the traditional or epic hero is one that on many occasions would depict various skills of a typical man. This statement means that he is a person that is effective with the sword and would use the swordsmanship skills on many occasions.
