Understanding the connection between history and the social circumstances surrounding its conception is essential for every student. It allows him to have a deeper appreciation of why such an event happened in the first place. In this article, I would like to focus on the 'resistance' that the African American community exerted against the dominant White society during the Harlem Renaissance era. It is my firm belief that rather than using violence to deal with oppression, disillusionment, and inequality, the African American community focused on using their resourcefulness and creativity instead.
