Grit is Overrated
Scholars have tried to develop theories to differentiate those that are successful from the least successful. One concept that resonates among most scholars is the notion of grit. Psychologist Angela Lee Duckworth did remarkable research to reiterate the concept of grit and demystify the notion that success comes about as a result of high intelligence (Duckworth). In her book, Duckworth defines grit as that which helps one endure the challenges that come along the road to success, and the major components are passion and perseverance (Duckworth). Although some denounced the aspect of grit, I am for the idea that it is more than just being intelligent for one to succeed, but rather weathering the storms in the road to success.
