In The Frankenstein’s Monster of Social Media Brian Rosenberg uses the example of Frankenstein the monstrous creature to highlight the dangers of social media, where its creator, Victor Frankenstein cannot control and the monster becomes uncontrollable The emergence of social media was heralded as a way to increase human connection and while there has been connectivity, but there are risks that there could be isolating effects. The abuse and misuse of social media is associated with the lack of honesty, violation of privacy, lack of civility poor predictions and lack of critical self-evaluation, but understanding the behavior of social media use will improve the social media experience.
The writer rightfully questions whether social media has done more harm than good even as more people sign up to social media since technology problems are linked to societal problems. Social media platforms have been misused and abused yet the intended objective of the digital tools was to facilitate communication, connection, and interaction.
