Challenges of Staying in a Foreign Country
Staying in a country as a foreigner always comes with its own challenges and opportunities. As a young person who moved from my home country in China to the United States, I can ascertain that overcoming these challenges require you to be strong-willed and fight your own battles to get what you exactly want out of life. Some of the people who go through these challenges express them in the form of literary writing. In the text, Refugee by Alan Gratz, the author tell us a story about three children who are fleeing their home countries due to war and conflict. They are moving to better nations where they hope that things would be fine. We meet Mahmoud a Syrian boy fleeing his country that has been torn by war for Europe. In the poem, 100 word on 45's 100 days, Fatimah Asghar expresses her opinion about the American politics especially the presidency. Some of the challenges explored in these literary works are just a representation of what it feels like to live in a foreign country.
One of the common challenges that we encounter is the failure to be recognized as foreigners. I had a similar experience when I moved from China to Texas. Life as Texas was quite difficult since our host family ignored us after some time. We ended up staying like strangers in a foreign country. We did not have any food and we had to spend our money to buy food.
