The Flood that Sparked My Memory
As I stood there holding the 13-year old paper made ship and the captain cap, happy childhood memories flooded my mind, and before I knew it, I was almost soaking my shirt with tears. How fast time flies, I thought to myself. The flood had damaged the ship, but my cap was still in good shape. Memories of my childhood days flocked my mind and or the first time in a long time, I felt like the innocent and carefree child I once was. Back then nothing seemed too big and regardless of the hard economic times my family was going through, I still believe I had the best of my days back then. My father, who I currently saw once or twice a week had made the ship for me and bought a sailor’s cap for me. To me, he was the greatest man on earth and even though he often struggled and seemed distressed most of the time, he afforded a smile for me every time I ran to him or saw me playing.
The ship was special to me because it reminded me of the days when, to me, mom and dad were not busy all the time, and family vacations were a common thing. I remembered when at one time both of my parents watched me set sail and before I boarded the ship, I performed a little ceremony and even gave a speech which obviously was the ...
