Film Review Reaction Paper-The Day After (1983)
The Day After is a television movie that was produced by ABC on November 20, 1983. The movie depicts the impacts of nuclear war on the people in and around Kansas City. The film captures how the Soviet Union's aggressive orders, which required their troops to march near the border of West Berlin. The troops invade West Germany with armored tanks accompanied by dividing troops (After 26:15-29:47). At the same time, a family on the border with Missouri, Kansas, is about to witness their eldest daughter get married while Dr. Oakes is working tirelessly as the chief of surgery in a small university. However, all these people are drawn near to nuclear war while going about their daily lives. After the Russians strike West Germany with a nuclear ballistic missile, they attack a U.S warship at the Persian Gulf. Later on, the U.S responds by attacking a soviet ship (After 1:09:55-1:37:00). These attacks continue, and then Kansas City in Missouri is shot, and many people are killed. The affected people are left to die with a radioactive filled atmosphere, starvation, and barren lands.
The film is terrifying and horrifying to watch, but it depicts what could have happened if the two countries escalated into war since it was produced during the Cold War.
