Introduction
When it comes to film analysis, a lot is involved, with the ultimate aim of ensuring that there is a more rounded approach towards the achievement of the goals for the exercise. There goals might be character analysis, screenplay, themes and any stylistic features that might be involved therein. In most cases, film analysis tends to be more about the overall impact of the characters in relation to the storyline, which can be reflected to a current scenario or piece of development happening currently. While much of the analysis might be geared towards the deductions from character play, it is important to note that not only does this mean the whole exercise is one-dimensional; it simply indicates the versatility.
Excalibur is a movie produced in 1981. It is an epic and a heroic fantasy classic film that narrates about the heroic deeds during the time of King Arthur. John Boorman directed it. Spanning a period of around sixty years, the movie’s storyline captures the events of the time through the experiences and acts of five figures; Uther Pendragon, Arthur, Lancelot and Perceval. The movie traces much of its content from the book Le Morte D Arthur, and therefore tries to fuse a number of characters and events into one, in such a way that the entire narration can fit into two hours of screenplay. The director tries to stick to the events as narrated in the book, in an attempt to maintain and retain originality. The movie talks about the Excalibur, which is going to be the central theme in this paper, as it is going to be compared to the Komodo dragon as well as the Chinese dragon. The three have similarities and differences, especially to do with appearance, symbolism as well as strength.
